How to determine the size of an adult bed? 

The adult bed can be used for parents, as well as for teenagers. As your children grow, they naturally transition from a child's bed to an adult bed around the age of 12. 

Chambrekids offers different bed sizes.

Single adult bed:

~ adult 90x190 bed;

~ adult 90x200 bed.

Double adult bed:

~ adult bed 160x200;

~ adult bed 140x190.

To select the adult bed that suits you, you need to understand the difference between the external dimensions of the furniture and the size of the sleeping area: the external size corresponds to the overall measurements of the furniture, while the sleeping area is determined by the bedding, i.e., the bed base and mattress. 

You must therefore measure the room and take into account the external dimensions when choosing the bed. Make sure that once installed, it will not block the opening and closing of the door and windows. The window sashes should not be above the bed either, as you might hit your head when getting up. 

Rules for choosing the bed size

The bed for a couple should be chosen taking into account the height of the taller partner, as this will determine the appropriate bed length. The general rule is to choose a bed that is 15 to 20 cm longer than the height of the tallest sleeper. If you or your partner are 1.80 meters tall, it's preferable to opt for an adult bed 2 meters long. If you estimate that your child will reach at least 1.80 meters, it's more economical to directly acquire a 2-meter long bed, even if you're buying it when they're only 12 years old. This will save you from having to change it in the coming years.

For a couple, the minimum width is 1.40 meters. This requires you to sleep quite close together. If you have the necessary space in your bedroom, you'll feel more comfortable in a bed that's 1.60 meters wide. 

For your child, you can plan for an adult 90x190 bed or an adult 90x200 bed depending on the estimate of their adult height. However, if their room is intended to accommodate them when they're adults and come to visit you on weekends or during holidays, a double adult bed will be more comfortable, especially if they come with a partner. Moreover, if your child's room is spacious enough, they will appreciate a double adult bed from their teenage years. It's more spacious, thus more comfortable for sleeping. During the day, it will also serve as an XXL couch for reading, using the computer, or watching videos.

Which adult bed to choose?

Single adult bed

The single adult bed is suitable for a single adult who has a small-sized room or who prefers to maximize the rest of the room to make it a space for work, play, sports, etc. 

The single adult bed is also ideal for a growing teenager. From the age of 12, you should anticipate that the child's bed will soon no longer be suitable.

Adult 90x190 bed or adult 90x200 bed?

If the person occupying the bed is taller than 1.75 meters, you should consider an adult 90x200 bed. This is also the case if you think your teenager will exceed this height.

Adult bed 140x190

The adult 140x190 bed quickly becomes a bit tight for two people if their build is normal or slightly larger. It's more suitable for a single person or a teenager who has a spacious room.

Adult bed 160x200

The adult 160x200 bed is the most comfortable, as it prevents waking up your partner with each movement.

Adult bed with storage

The adult bed with storage is suitable for teenagers as well as adults. Two storage options are possible: under the bed or at the head of the bed. 

The adult bed with storage can be placed on a drawer the size of the mattress that serves as a base. This allows you to store many items, as well as bulky goods: extra quilts and pillows, bulky winter clothing, seasonal sports gear, etc.

The headboard is also very practical for storing all kinds of items. It can also serve as a bedside table where you can place your bedside lamp and alarm clock. 

Opt for robust and healthy materials

The choice of raw materials is meticulous, to ensure the durability of our beds. Thus, your teenager's bed will still serve them when they become adults and come back to visit you. As for the parents' bed, it will accompany them throughout their lives.
