Chambrekids' advice for setting up your child's room

Before purchasing a child's bed, a few questions need to be asked. First make your choice according to your needs and your boy's or girl's tastes. You must also think about the functional aspect, storage and available space in the child's room. Finally, to respect your budget, compare the price differences between purchasing a complete room with bed, wardrobe and dresser and purchasing a bed alone.

Our children's rooms include a 90x190 cm child bed or 90x200 cm, suitable for all boys and girls up to adolescence. You will find boys' and girls' children's rooms with an extendable bed that grows from 90x140 to 90x190 cm so you can keep it for several years.

Some rooms are suitable for sleeping 2 or 3 people, either by installing a bunk bed or a trundle bed with a foldable sleeping space that stores under its main sleeping area. You can organize sleepovers and thus accommodate a friend, girlfriend or cousins.

To save space in the room, we advise you to install a mid-height bed or a loft bed. Your child's room will thus be more practical. Attention, elevated beds are not suitable for all young children. If your child needs a bed rail, you will need to wait a little longer before moving to an elevated bed.

Your child's room is a living space day and night. It is important to carefully plan its layout. To arrange it properly, we offer different furniture such as wardrobes, dressers, storage cubes or desks. This will make it easy to store clothes, books and toys while optimizing space.

What furniture to set up a child's room? 

Setting up a child's room requires a bed and additional furniture. Depending on the volume you have available, you will add:

  • bedside table;
  • wardrobe;
  • dresser;
  • desk and chair;
  • bookcase;
  • toy chest;
  • sofa, armchair 

Chambrekids offers you two solutions: independent purchase of each element or the child's room package. In all cases, the choice of furniture must be considered based on the room's configuration, available space and the child's use of it. Indeed, if the room is large, you can dedicate a space for the desk and for play, but this is not always possible. However, you have clever solutions that allow you to save space.
 

Boy's room and girl's room

It is always delicate to make generalizations, but you can differentiate the boy's room and the girl's room. Girls often prefer decor in light colors, while darker colors will find favor in boys' eyes. The wisest thing is above all to involve your child in the acquisition of furniture and decisions regarding the color of paints and floor and wall coverings.

It is also common to have a brother and sister share the same room. The ideal is to talk with them to determine whether they prefer to differentiate the boy's room area and the girl's room area, or if they prefer uniform decoration in the room that pleases them both. 

The different types of beds in the child's room

The bed naturally constitutes the centerpiece of the child's room. You will not choose the same one for a little boy's room or a little girl's room as for a teenager's room. On the other hand, you must consider the possibility of having a guest sleep in the room, which implies having a spare bed.

The classic bed

If you have sufficient space, the classic bed is designed for a single child's sleeping. 

The trundle bed 

The trundle bed conceals under the main bed another bed that unfolds with a gesture, thanks to an ingenious system. This type of bed is ideal when your child receives guests who spend the night at your home. 

Chambrekids focusing on quality, the spare bed can also serve as a daily bed for siblings if you lack space. The second bed is then only unfolded at bedtime. 

The bunk bed

The bunk bed is ideal for two children, whether they are twins or of different ages. You thus gain considerable space. Our Opus collection offers additional storage space.

The bunk bed for 3 children 

The bunk bed for 3 children is a mix between the bunk bed and the trundle bed. It allows you to sleep three children in the same room, occupying the least possible space. This type of bed is popular with large families, but also for second homes and vacation houses, often intended to receive guests and family.

The loft bed

The loft bed is also wise for saving space in the room. The bed is elevated, which allows you to use the volume underneath. This can be dedicated to a desk space, storage or reserved for play. Little ones love creating their own cabin, with or without furniture, using curtains to create their private and secret space. 

The daybed

The daybed partially adopts the concept of the trundle bed and thus offers two sleeping spaces. When folded, it serves as a sofa for playing or reading. 

The Montessori bed

The concept of the Montessori bed is to be on the floor and allow the child the possibility to organize their space as they wish. The sleeping area is generally larger, as the bed can also serve as a play space. 

Chambrekids offers you the classic Montessori bed or the cabin bed. The latter is topped with a hollowed-out structure that recalls the cabin and gives more of an impression of sleeping in a cocoon.

The storage drawer

The giant drawer that fits under the bed offers you significant volume for storage. You can store off-season clothes, books, bed and bath linen, etc. 

The headboard or footboard

Adding a headboard or footboard also allows you to store many items, including books and comics. The headboard can also serve as a bedside table. You can install the bedside lamp there and the child can place their bedside book, tissue, glasses, glass of water, etc. 

Other furniture in the child's room

The other furniture in the child's room includes the bedside table, dresser, wardrobe, desk, bookcase, toy chest and sofa. Take the time to measure the room, taking into account the openings of doors and windows to develop a clever layout. 

All that remains is to decide on household linen: sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, mattress protectors, bedding sets... but also of course the mattress. 

Again, you can or cannot make the distinction between the girl's room and the boy's room by playing with the colors and patterns of household linen.

We use solid wood (oak, beech, pine...) or MDF panels (Medium Density Fiberboard). These are composite panels, robust and durable. Finally, all our children's room furniture is painted with paints made of natural pigments and water, without solvents. You thus have the guarantee of healthy coatings, without VOC emissions (Volatile Organic Compounds) that pollute the room's atmosphere.
