In summer, temperatures often rise quickly and have difficulty dropping at night, especially during heatwaves. Therefore, finding solutions to cool baby's room becomes essential to ensure they can fall asleep and not get too hot. There are several methods for this, but also several pitfalls to avoid.
Here are all our expert tips to effectively cool baby's room this summer and prevent them from suffering from the heat!
Regulating temperature in a baby's room during summer isn't always easy. Fortunately, there are several tips to implement to create the ideal environment for a young child.
Place a thermometer-hygrometer near the bed. The ideal summer temperature is around 24°C and humidity between 40% and 60%.
Open windows and shutters wide before 8 am, for 10 to 15 minutes, when the outside air is still cool. This creates natural airflow.
Once the outside temperature rises above 24°C, close the windows and shutters to keep the coolness inside.
Choose a model with noise level below 30 dB. Place it more than one meter away from the bed, directed towards the ceiling, to circulate air without blowing directly on baby.
Place a bowl of cold water or a frozen bottle in front of the fan. This lowers the ambient temperature by 2 to 3°C, without humidifying the air.
Reopen windows once the outside temperature drops below 24°C. Maintain slight ventilation until baby falls asleep, then turn off the fan.
Throughout the summer season, it's very important to protect infants from heat, including at night. Indeed, a temperature that's too high in the room will prevent baby from falling asleep, but that's not all. In fact, young children are more sensitive to heat and can be subject to greater water loss when temperatures are too high. Moreover, babies are particularly sensitive to temperature variations. Their thermoregulation only becomes functional several months after birth.
For all these reasons, it is important to pay special attention to regulating the temperature in baby's room during summer.
When choosing your combination baby bed or any other type of baby bed, pay attention to the materials used in their design. Indeed, certain materials used tend to generate volatile organic compounds that negatively affect the ambient air and potentially baby's well-being. There are ways to limit their presence by favoring certain materials.
This is particularly true with eco-friendly panels with low formaldehyde content or solvent-free paints for example. Whether it's a combination baby bed or any other children's furniture, we therefore recommend choosing these types of materials which will also be more eco-friendly and sustainable.
