Creating a play and sleep space: decor ideas around a 90x190 bed

Depending on the time of day, a child's bedroom can take different forms. Sometimes a space dedicated to calm and sleep, sometimes a play area dedicated to fun and learning. Therefore, it must have several defined spaces so that the child can grow and flourish. So how do you create a play and sleep space in a child's room? Which decorative elements should you use to distinguish the spaces?

Find the ideal bed

First of all, you'll need to find a good children's bed. Most often, it's recommended to opt for a 90x190 children's bed. These are the dimensions of a standard single bed. A 90x190 children's bed can be used throughout childhood, but also during adolescence and even into adulthood if it's still in good condition. In terms of 90x190 beds, there are different types of models:

  • The simple bed: This is the 90x190 bed in its simplest form, consisting of a bed frame and bed base, all in 90x190 cm format. For example, there's our children's bed with White & Wood Essential headboard.
  • The loft bed: Positioned at height, this 90x190 children's bed allows you to install a bench or desk underneath, for example.
  • The daybed: Seating during the day and sleeping space at night, it offers a very pleasant dual use.
  • The Montessori bed: With its position close to the floor, it allows little ones to gain independence when getting up and going to bed.
  • The bunk bed: It has two sleeping spaces, one at height and one below. There are even triple bunk beds.
  • The convertible bed: First a crib, it then transforms into a children's bed.
  • The house bed: It has a house-shaped structure for a fun and playful look.
  • The mid-height bed: Accessible by a small ladder, it remains however lower than the loft bed.
  • The children's bed with storage: It has several storage compartments under the bed or at the headboard level to save space.
  • The trundle bed: A second bed is hidden in the drawer just below the bed base.

Create a beautiful sleeping area

The first step is to work on the layout and decoration of the sleeping area. This means the area of the room where the bed will be installed.

The mattress

Be sure to choose a quality mattress specifically designed for children's sleep. Indeed, they are designed to provide sufficient support for young ones. Moreover, make sure your child's mattress has the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label. This label ensures the absence of substances considered harmful.

The bedside table

If your 90x190 children's bed doesn't have small storage compartments at the headboard level, it's useful to add a small bedside table. You can opt for a standalone piece of furniture if space allows to store books, place glasses when sleeping, or have a bedside lamp. In smaller bedrooms, a simple wall shelf can work perfectly well.

The lighting

Taking care of lighting in the sleeping area is also crucial to create a soft and soothing atmosphere at bedtime. Moreover, an additional light source will make bedtime story reading more enjoyable.

The decoration

To create an even more reassuring and pleasant environment, you can for example use a bed canopy. Little ones will appreciate this tent-like effect that will help them feel secure when they leave their crib. You can also opt for a pretty garland at the headboard level. There are many possibilities to decorate the sleeping space, without forgetting the bedding of course!

And what about the play area?

More than just for peaceful nights, a child's bedroom is also a space dedicated to play. It's therefore important that the room is also designed to make room for the most fabulous adventures and imagination.

Define the play area

To prevent your child from spreading out onto their 90x190 children's bed, it's better to visually define the space dedicated to play. You can do this in several ways:

  • Color one wall section for the play area of the room
  • Install a playhouse or teepee
  • Place a rug with playful patterns
  • etc...

Storage solutions available

Another important point for the play area to coexist with the sleeping area in a child's room: storage solutions. They are essential so that toys, books, building blocks and other items can find their place without overwhelming the room. Opt for a storage chest, boxes, baskets, all containers are welcome!

Your child can thus tidy their room independently, particularly at the end of the day to enjoy a clean space conducive to rest. Don't forget to add a small bookshelf for avid readers.

Add a desk if possible

Finally, if you manage to reconcile play and sleep in the same room and you have space left, you can absolutely add a desk. The desk will allow your child to settle down quietly to do homework, but also read, dream, draw, etc. Don't forget to add a comfortable office chair, a desk lamp and various storage solutions.
