The arrival of a baby is always a special event. It deserves to be prepared with the utmost attention, to create a cocoon for the newborn that will reflect the comfort and warmth of home.
Here's how to methodically proceed to set up the baby's room.
At birth, the newborn spends 14 to 18 hours in their bed. It is therefore important that their room is comfortable and provides complete safety.
Unless your home is very recent, it is advised to renovate the wall, floor, and ceiling coverings. Over time, they have inevitably become dirty, and your baby deserves a new environment free from any pollution.
For walls, paint remains the most practical and healthiest covering. Wallpapers require the use of adhesives. Additionally, they are more porous and thus more receptive to dirt, microbes, and viruses that travel through the air.
Water-based paint is preferable as it contains no solvents and doesn't emit unpleasant odors. At Chambrekids all our furniture is manufactured with paint guaranteed VOC-free (Volatile Organic Compounds) which can trigger irritations and sometimes even allergies.
You must therefore be careful about the manufacturers you choose. They use raw materials based on plant resin, rather than petroleum-based materials, as is often the case with paints.
You have a wide range of colors available. Pastel tones are naturally recommended to create a soft cocoon, where your baby spends most of their time during the first months of life.
The floor of the baby's room must be comfortable, as it serves as a play area, as well as a training ground for their first crawling adventures. This floor must resist stains and impacts.
Hardwood flooring, whether solid or engineered, appears ideal. Wood symbolizes warmth and longevity. Very resistant, it acts as a good insulator. If the floor still remains cold, simply add a removable rug that can be easily washed. Check that your flooring is washable to avoid crayon and marker stains...
Linoleum is a practical and very economical alternative. Its installation is easy and its range of colors and patterns unlimited. Be careful with the glue you choose to avoid emissions that poison the atmosphere.
Carpets are comfortable but difficult to maintain, as they are absorbent and offer microbes, dust, and dust mites a cozy nest from which it's impossible to dislodge them. As for natural fiber floors, they are just as complicated to maintain and aren't always comfortable, as they tend to be rough.
You will furnish your baby's room according to the space available, but you must install three essential elements:
1. a deep bed with transparent sides (with bars or plexiglass);
2. a storage dresser for your infant's wardrobe;
3. a comfortable changing table designed to change your baby safely.
To help you match your furniture, you can turn to offers that include the three essential pieces. We offer complete baby rooms to help you furnish your child's room.
With the complete or convertible and compact baby room set, you are assured of having a complete setup. If the room is large, you can later add other furniture for toy storage, a bookshelf, a reading corner, a desk for future school homework...
Wooden furniture remains a safe choice, guaranteeing warm comfort, health safety, and durability. You have a very wide choice of designs and colors. They allow you to match your baby's room to the room's colors and select a style you love.
While France's reindustrialization is a key concern, choose French manufacturing.
At Chambrekids, we have French expertise for over 40 years. All our products are Made in France, designed and manufactured in France.
By choosing Chambrekids for your child's room furnishing, you no longer need to question the origin and quality of the materials you'll have. The wood we use comes from eco-managed forests. Our manufacturing process is also responsible and sustainable.
The centerpiece of the baby's room: the bed!
Since a considerable amount of time is spent there, the choice of bed naturally receives the greatest attention.
For its structure, the bars constitute the traditional protection for your child, day and night. You might prefer the alternative with transparent plexiglass panels. Make sure of the quality of the bed base provided by the manufacturer.
For your comfort, as well as your baby's, you'll find beds adjustable to three heights.
Our Icone baby bed is adjustable to 3 heights. Moreover, it is convertible. This way, you can keep this same bed for your child until the age of 6.
You can also opt for a convertible room. This means the baby's bed transforms as they grow: from bassinet, it becomes a crib and later a child's bed.
For a baby, there's no need for a wardrobe that takes up too much space, a simple dresser is enough to store all the little clothes and accessories: clothing, socks, bibs, diapers... Plan for spacious drawers that will also hold toys. Thus, when your baby discovers their autonomy by crawling around, you can leave only the toys of your choice accessible.
The dresser follows your child's growth, as they will need it even as a teenager. Moreover, the dresser has the advantage of serving as a changing table support. For a design that lasts over time, our Octave dresser is ideal. It can also accommodate a changing top.
The dresser is at a good height to serve as a changing table, saving you from buying an additional, standalone and bulky piece of furniture. You just need to add the changing top (which is included in complete baby room sets).
The dresser serves as a support and facilitates your organization: you can use its first drawer to store care products and toiletries.
You still need to fine-tune the lighting in your baby's room. Light fixtures must serve their utilitarian purpose, but also bring peace to your infant. They must be soft, which excludes lights that are too white. If you use halogen lamps, they must be adjustable and kept at a low intensity. Low-power bulbs are preferable, due to the warm and soft light they emit. To achieve a dimmed atmosphere, equip the room with several moderate-intensity light fixtures.
However, you must have stronger lighting for your changing table to facilitate care. It must be adjustable to avoid glaring the child, but focus on the changing area.
Plan for a night light that will accompany your baby while falling asleep.
Your baby's room is operational, you can now focus on decoration and add playful and aesthetic accessories.
