How to decorate your child's room for Christmas?

With the weather getting cooler and the days getting shorter, it's no wonder we're already wanting to dive into the magic of Christmas. While it might still be a bit early to decorate, now is the perfect time to think about what we want for this year to make purchases or start initial DIY projects. If the living room is often the room that gets the most themed decoration, why not decorate the children's room as well?

Bringing Christmas magic into children's rooms

In the living room, the Christmas tree will take pride of place as the holidays approach, and the rest of the room can also be decorated to give a warm and magical style to the space. You can do the same in the children's bedroom so they can wake up every morning in December with a bit of Christmas magic. This project will delight both young and old and can be an opportunity to get into the spirit and share an activity together.

So it's decided, this year, Christmas will also be in the children's bedroom with custom decorations!

Decorating the bed for magical nights

First step, tackle the placement of the child's bed. For example, you can opt for bedding that matches the theme to decorate the children's bed. This could mean choosing sheets with patterns of Christmas trees, reindeer, or Santa Claus, or simply choosing seasonal colors for your 2-year-old child's bed such as red, white, or green. You can also opt for a more budget-friendly decoration of the children's bed by simply using a patterned throw and small cushions to decorate.

If you have a trundle bed, don't forget to do the same if cousins or friends are planning to spend the night.

The child's bed can also be decorated at the headboard, like with our ARCHIPEL children's bed. You can, for example, add string lights or paper decorations. This could be a great DIY activity to share with your child. If you have a children's bed with storage, the cubbies and shelves will be perfect supports for Christmas-themed decorative elements.

Don't forget to personalize the bedside table with a small Santa Claus or a light decoration.

Curtains adorned with ribbons

Another great activity to share with children is creating pretty ribbons with bells and other Christmas symbols. You can then hang them from the curtain rod to let them dangle along the curtains in front of the window. If possible, choose trinkets that reflect light for an even more magical effect when the sun decides to peek out.

A mini Christmas tree

The mini Christmas tree is the ultimate decorative touch for a bedroom during the holidays. It immediately evokes something magical and enchanting for children. You can opt for a real tree, but there are many artificial trees available in stores. Children can then choose their decorations in stores or create them themselves. There are many online tutorials for this. Place it, for example, on the children's dresser in the room, and you can even slip a small gift under it on December 24th.

Christmas-themed objects

To complete the decoration, you can opt for many Christmas-themed objects. For example, you can choose battery-operated fake candles which are safe for a child's room. You can also choose to add lanterns, snow globes, stuffed animals, there are countless possibilities in stores, as well as ideas for items to make. If your child has a desk or children's bookshelf, these are all surfaces where you can place or hang decorations.

Remember to adapt the decoration to your child's age. Teenagers won't appreciate the same elements as younger children. The main goal is to make your child's eyes light up when they discover their room redecorated for the holiday season.

Activities to share while waiting for the holidays

While waiting for December 24th to finally arrive, there are other ways to immerse your children in the magic of Christmas.

New enchanting stories

For bedtime reading, you can choose stories about Christmas, the North Pole, winter, etc. This will be an opportunity to give new books to your children.

Magical movies and series

The holiday season and especially Christmas vacation are also a great way to introduce your children to magical movies and series when the weather is bad outside. Disney, Pixar, Illumination, Ghibli - there's no shortage of studios offering quality children's content.

Treats for sweet lovers

Winter is also a great time for cooking sweet treats with the family. Christmas cookies, hot chocolate, and other treats will be perfect to delight everyone.

Outdoor activities

Finally, you can also opt for typical activities of this season such as forest walks, a trip to the ice rink, discovering your city's decorations, etc.
